Dr. Maeturah Harmon is a Board Certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist, originally from Dallas, Texas. As an osteopath, Dr. Harmon is often asked about the difference between D.O.’s and M.D.’s. Dr. Harmon uses the additional osteopathic skill set of manipulative medicine to treat the body holistically. She believes that the body is an intricate and dynamic entity. Thus, she truly values her training, which taught her to take a whole-person approach to medicine, and equipped her with the techniques of manipulative medicine, which helps to promote the body’s natural tendency towards health and self healing.
Dr. Harmon knew from childhood that she wanted to practice medicine. Her aspirational journey to becoming a physician first took her to Waco, Texas. There, she attended Baylor University and graduated in 2006 with a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry. From there, she moved to Hampton, Virginia where she attended Hampton University and graduated in 2008 with a Masters of Biomedical Sciences. She then moved to Blacksburg, Virginia, attended Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine-Virginia and received her Doctorate of Osteopathy in 2012. While at VCOM she went on Medical Missions to Tegucigalpa, Honduras. She was very actively involved in many student organizations—American Medical Women’s Association, Student National Medical Association serving as Parliamentarian, Student Osteopathic Medicine Association serving as Secretary, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, as well as American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She was also awarded Medical Student of the Year during her clinical rotations.
Dr. Harmon completed her residency at Presence Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago, IL in 2016. During that time, Dr. Harmon served as Chief Administrative Resident, Professional Development and Quality Leader and Education Co-Chair Coordinator. Following residency, she returned to the great state of Texas where she practiced full scope obstetrical and gynecological care at a well-respected federally qualified health center in Central Austin. Now settled in Houston, she joined Complete Women’s Care Center in 2020 as a hospitalist at The Woman’s Hospital of Texas.
In her spare time, Dr. Harmon enjoys spending time with her husband, her large West African family, her friends and with her sorority members of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. She also enjoys traveling, learning, reading, dancing, music, poetry, enjoying the arts and fitness.
