Dr. Cynthia Fountain grew up mostly in Florida but spent her first year of high school in Bogota, Colombia learning Spanish. She attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, earning a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and an Officer’s commission in the United States Marine Corps. She served as a Logistics and Supply Officer attaining the rank of Major while earning her Master of Business Administration at the College of William and Mary.
Dr. Fountain left active duty in 2004 when she went to work for Johnson and Johnson’s Ethicon Endo-Surgery, seeking to promote minimally invasive surgical techniques. While assisting surgeons with new instruments in the operating room, Cynthia discovered her love for surgery. That love, coupled with a calling that she discovered while doing medical mission work in South Africa and Peru, led her to complete her Doctorate of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver. She subsequently completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency training at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
Dr. Fountain’s military awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. While with Johnson and Johnson, she earned awards in the areas of leadership and research and development. In medical school, she was awarded the Tylenol scholarship and the Kaiser Permanente Diversity scholarship. Most recently, she was awarded the Resident Achievement award by the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons. Her publications are in the areas of minimally invasive hysterectomy, genetic testing, and cost-effectiveness in gynecologic cancer care.
Dr. Fountain became an OB/GYN because she cherishes sharing in some of the most intimate experiences of her patients’ lives, building life-long relationships along the way. She has a passion for serving women in every chapter of life – from adolescence to the childbearing years, and on through menopause. She is trained in obstetrics and gynecologic surgery, with the greatest experience in minimally invasive techniques.
Dr. Fountain, her husband, and their three children are excited to now call Houston home, having joined Complete Women’s Care Center in 2017. She is on staff at the Woman’s Hospital of Texas and practices at the Medical Center office. She spends her free time exploring Houston restaurants and attractions with her family. She also enjoys biking, swimming, hiking, and camping.
